Board games have entertained humanity for generations and will continue to do so for generations more. But over the course of the last 100 years give or take, certain games have achieved a level of legendary status, making them the best board games of all time. Whether this is due to complexity, entertainment value, cooperative mechanics, or just plain creativity, these games are always a good time. We’ve also added some honorable mentions as well.

1. Monopoly 
1. A game of pure luck, this game pits players against each other to create monopolies and make the other players go broke. Famously known to go for hours and cause arguments.
2. Risk
1. The title tells you exactly what it’s about: taking risks. In this strategy-based world domination game, players eliminate each other to take over the world. 
3. Settlers of Catan
1. A popular game of strategy that doesn’t involve world domination, but resource domination and town building. Although the mechanics include trade and development, it’s much more fun than it sounds.
4. Gloomhaven 
1. Not as famous as other games, but it’s a complex and story-driven fantasy game that’s cooperative for up to 4 players. Not feeling competitive? This one’s right for you!
5. Arkham Horror
1. Taking place in an H.P. Lovecraft story, the game takes players through a heavily story-based game of cooperation. Great for those stormy nights!
6. Crokinole
1. You may have never heard of it, but this dexterity game invented in the 1800s is fast, fun, and addictive for up to 4 players. They even have tournaments for Crokinole.
7. Chess
1. This class board game will always be on everyone’s list as it should be. It’s a game of strategy and wit, requiring players to think a few moves ahead.
8. Apples to Apples
1. This fun card game for the whole family is laugh inducing and a great way to pass the time together. 
9. Pictionary
1. This drawing game requires some drawing skill, some cooperation, and some perception. A great party game for any occasion. 
10. Battleship
1. Everyone knows and loves this guessing and strategy game. Set your ships up on the board and hope the other player isn’t a good guesser.
