Made for two to five players, Carcassonne is another strategy game you may want to try for game night. Players are required to construct a map from scratch using randomly selected tiles. Once you design a map, you will place your pawns, referred to as Meeples, on the board to assume control of roads, towns, and farmland before other players. Whoever amasses the most property wins. Although the game can take a while to master, it can still be immensely fun for both novice and veteran players. Carcassonne is designed to be re-playable, primarily because the nature of the tiles is so random. There is also an expansion pack available if you get too bored with the same thing.

5. Crime City

Crime City is a unique cooperative board game that allows players to solve a variety of complex crimes. Unlike other board games, you can play the game alone, but it may be more fun with friends or family members to compete against. You will need quite a bit of space to lay out the city map and move around freely on it, and you will use a magnifying glass to search for clues and suspects. Short narratives help you understand each crime scene, allowing you to solve each mystery step-by-step. Proving and disproving theories is a major part of the game, and it can take anywhere from 10 minutes to an hour to solve particular crimes. Some crimes do deal with adult topics, so it may not be best for small children.

6. Ticket to Ride

Ticket to Ride is an adventurous board game that anyone of any age can play. Since the game is so easy to understand, even small children will enjoy it and start to confidently play after just a few minutes. The ultimate goal is to claim various railway routes across the United States and Canada using highly-colored plastic railway cars. You may purchase routes with cards, and you can even obtain bonus points for connecting certain routes. The European version of this game includes tunnels and ferries, and there are many expansions to choose from.

7. Horrified

Does the prospect of saving a city from classic monsters such as the Mummy, Dracula, and the Bride of Frankenstein sound appealing to you? Horrified is a cooperative game that pits a diverse cast of monsters against up to five players. Each monster exhibits different behavior, and can only be defeated when players work together to take them down. The game can be replayed numerous times as you develop newer and different strategies for saving the villagers, town, and yourself. Since the game requires cooperation, playing Horrified might help you avoid typical game night arguments.

8. Articulate

If you are up for a good laugh, you may want to give Articulate a try. The goal of the game is to describe words to other players using only the first letter of the word or another word that rhymes with it. There are two versions of the game – one for adults and one with easier words for kids. Each word falls into one of six categories – object, nature, random, person, action, or world. Teams or individuals move around the board according to the number of words they correctly guess. The game does work well for three or four people, but it is also possible to include large groups of people by having them split into teams and take turns describing words.
